Dancer Asuncion Pérez, also known as "Choni", has grown out to be one of the most popular artists of the contemporary flamenco scene.
She took her first dancing steps at a very young age, with maestro Antonio Zarandilla.
Unter advice of the latter, she registered at the Seville Conservatory, where she obtained the title of lecturer in Danza Española.
Meanwhile, she also took courses with Manolo Marin, Granero, Azorin and Goyo Montero.
Furthermore, she completed her skills with artists such as Javier Latorre, Israel Galvan, Jose Antonio Ruiz and Javier Baron.
Her dancing carreer took her along dancing companies such as those of Mario Maya, Jose Joaquin, Antonio"El Pipa", Rafael de Carmen and Eva Yerbabuena.
Since 2007 she conducts her own company: "La Choni Cia. Flamenca", with which she has created and executed a proper corpus with pieces such as "Tejido al Tiempo", "Retahila", "Flamenco a tres" and "La Gloria de mi mare".
With "Trabajos al Tiempo" she won the important prize "Giraldillo Revelacion" at the Seville Biennial.
Asuncion Pérez, who obtained a Master in Informatics at the Seville University, also grounded the Asociacion Flamenca Universitaria de Sevilla in 1996. Moreover, she works as a guest lecturer for flamenco dance at different schools and organizations. |
