Maria Jose Franco from Cádiz put her first dancing steps at the age of five.
She received an education from Angelito Gomez and Manolo Marin. Later on she strived for perfection under the supervision of grand figures such as Carmen Cortés, Matilde Coral, El Guïto, Manolete, La Yerbabuena, Antonio Canales and Mario Maya. This Mario Maya was the first to admit her into his “Compañia”, in 1992 already.
Her hard work was rewarded with a number of very prestigious prizes, such as the first prize at the Festival de Las Minas in La Unión (Murcia) and the first prize at the Festival de Nîmes in France. She also was a finalist at the Bienal de Arte Flamenco in Sevilla.
She received a place in the Compañia Andaluza de Danza and under the supervision of Jose Antonio she soon became the solo performer of the company. With the Compañia she traveled around the world during four years, performing programmes suck as “El Perro Andaluz”, “La Vida Breve”, “Picasso” and others.
Maria Jose Franco also achieved great fame as “Bailaora Invitada” in the programme “Pasión y Ley” by Antonio El Pipa, a dancer she often cooperated with.
Meanwhile she appeared with her own company on the playbill of numerous grand festivals such as: Mont-de-Marsan, Bienal de Arte Flamenco 02, Festival de Jerez, Festival de la Buleria, Jueves Flamencos Cádiz and she performed in Milan, Rome, Paris etc.
The programme by Maria Jose Franco shows the richness of a flamenco stripped of all its frills. Only dancing, singing, guitar… only flamenco.
For the occasion, Maria Jose Franco can appeal to a select company of Jeresian artists who already have a thorough reputation in the world of flamenco.
The cities of Jerez and Cádiz, the cradle of flamenco, inspired Maria Jose Franco. These surroundings made her realize this unaffected and cordial flamenco programme. An absolute must for anyone who loves flamenco. |
