Even though the Arte Flamenco is a typically andalucian cultureform, it has grown out to be a mundial concept thanks to its popularity and its universal character.
As a logical consequence, remarkeable talents are starting to step forward outside of the spanish borders as well.
Flamenco dancer Silvia Cabeza is a fine example of this phenomenon.
Allthough she was born in Utrecht (1982), she does have one hundred percent andalucian roots. From a very early age onwards, Silvia Cabeza has been absolutely fascinated by Flamenco. She was merely 10 years old when she first started performing.
As a teenager she often frequented in Spain to take classes with some well-known figures form the world of Flamenco-dancing, as there are Eva La Yerbabuena, Andrés Marin, the Farruco family, Rafael Campallo, Jose and Pastora Galván and Juana Amaya.
At the age of only 17, she could already put the crown to her spanish training period, when she started performing in “El Cordobés” in Barcelona, one of Spain’s best-known tablaos. Soon, many more performances in Spain followed, among others in “Tablao Los Tarantos” in Granada.
In Holland, Silvia Cabeza has had her own dancing school for quite some time now.
Furthermore worth mentioning is her part in the film “Leef!” by Willem van Sande Bakhuyzen.
Expression, technique and fysique are a good flamenco dancer’s most important qualities. Technique usually follows after many years of hard work. But the extraordinary thing about Silvia Cabeza however is her fiery expression on stage. Exactly that charisma and that temperament procures that unique form of magic between the dancer and the public, which makes Flamenco so special.
A performance by Silvia Cabeza is a special occasion for all aficionados. |
