Manuel Moreno Junquera “Moraito” (1955) was born in Jerez de la Frontera’s gipsy quarter, Barrio Santiago.
Moraito is without any doubt one of the most important and influential Flamencos.
As a vocal accompanist he is nowadays mainly the right had of the illurious Jose Merce. But he accompanied almost all celebrous artists of the flamenco World: Agujetas, El Torta, El Chocolate,…
He debuted in the time alongside female singer La Paquera de Jerez.
In his proud home town Jerez de la Frontera he is the utmost flamenco icon, the perfect example of the “Toque de Jerez”. More than anyone else, his guitar play is unified with the unique and striking aroma for which Jerez is famous.
His falsetas have become a common good among flamenco guitar players all around the world.
Without any doubt, he is considered to be a living legend by many flamenco guitar players and aficionados since the last three decades.
Almost any guitar player knows his work and to many, he proved to be the main source of inspiration, certainly where Bulerias are concerned. He definitely had a major influence on the contemporary flamenco world.
The most famous works from his discography are “Morao y Oro” and more recently “Morao, Morao”. Furthermore he also appeared in the film “Agujetas Cantaor” by Dominique Abel and in the legendary series “Rito y Geofrafia del Cante” by Jose Maria Velazquez-Gaztelu.
As a soloist, he can nowadays almost only be seen at work in Andalucía itself. But that is about to change!
