| Inmaculada “Melchora” Ortega Pérez was born in Jerez de la Frontera on January 31, 1972. Coming from a true born Jerezian Flamenco family, she was at a very early age literally like one of the family in the very well-known Peñas of the Santiago-quarter in Jerez. She took the very best Cante Flamenco in with the mother’s milk.
A very important moment in Melchora Ortega’s career was her victory in 1997 at the famous competition of Mairena del Alcor. This opened the doors for her to the world of flamenco festivals in Andalusia. Very quickly, her name started appearing at the playbills along the greatest of artists.
Her final breakthrough followed in 1998, when she won the first prize in the most important flamenco-happening: the Bienal de Sevilla. There she achieved the victory in Cante Flamenco against a small army of opponents.
After this her first international concerts followed, in the US and Germany. In her own country she now had her chance at the most reputed events such as: Festival de Jerez (2000), Fiesta de la Buleria, Espárrago, and at the Jueves Flamencos de Cádiz.
Melchora Ortega now is coming to northern Europe for a first full tour. A unique opportunity to see one of the better Cantaoras of the new and talented generation live at work. |
